Stop the presses, because a Seattle Seahawks running back has been nominated for a weekly award!
Zach Charbonnet's career-best day against the Arizona Cardinals made him the only running back nominated for the FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Week award. Charbonnet rushed for a career-high 134 yards on 22 carries (plus a pair of rushing touchdowns), as well as 7 catches for 59 yards to help Seattle win 30-18 in Arizona.
Unlike in years past, the Air and Ground Player of the Week has been switched up a bit. Previously it used to just be quarterbacks for Air Player of the Week and running backs for Ground Player of the Week.
Here's what's changed:
Now, wide receivers and tight ends -- in addition to quarterbacks and running backs -- are eligible to be recognized as the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week.
Players will no longer be restricted to solely winning the Air or Ground Awards. Beginning this season, fans can vote during each week of the regular season for the two players from a group of six who displayed the best offensive performance.
Instead of one Air Player vote and one Ground Player vote, you can choose two players from six.
The NFC West is well represented with Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua and San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle are among the other nominees, alongside Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, and Jordan Addison.
This is a fan vote (unlike the NFL's own Player of the Week awards) so you can influence the outcome of this award! And voting is unlimited, so stuffing the ballot box is okay!
