Boston just got a $21.6M boost to fight its notorious traffic congestion

Greater Boston residents who can't take existing public transportation for their whole commute may soon have new options to carry them the last mile.

A $21.6 million federal grant announced this month will fund new shuttle services in certain Boston neighborhoods to supplement existing MBTA services. The grant will also help expand the Bluebikes bike-share network throughout the Greater Boston area.

"Easing traffic congestion is only possible if we offer accessible alternatives to cars, and this funding makes it possible for us to do so," Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said in a statement.
