Greetings from "Can't Wait For Saturday," your morning morsel of college football, courtesy of longtime Illini beat writer, AP Top 25 voter and Heisman state rep Bob Asmussen. He'll give you his views each day on the game he loves.

Obviously, Illinois' eighth win made an impression on Associated Press Top 25 voters, who apparently didn't care if Illinois needed a last-second miracle to make it happen. Heck that might have helped with the voters.

Now 8-3, Bret Bielema's team jumped two spots in this week's poll, up to No. 22. The Asmussen ballot lists Illinois at No. 19.

One voter, Greg Madia of The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va., ranked Illinois at No. 18. Josh Furlong of KSL in Salt Lake City, agreed with me and listed Illinois No. 19. Three others had Illinois at No. 20.

Illinois is on all but six ballots this week, a much lower number than in the last poll. One voter from the Big Ten region who didn't rank Illinois is an equal-opportunity snubber. Four ranked teams from the SEC aren't on his ballot.

As much fun as it is to track the AP voting, the bigger news for Illinois comes Tuesday night when the latest College Football Playoff standings are unveiled. Illinois made the cut last week at No. 25. Interested to see if the team climbs this week and how much.
