Vanderbilt men's basketball takes down No. 6 Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Vanderbilt Commodores channeled "Memorial Magic" to defeat the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium, 76-75.

It marked the Commodores' first win over the Big Orange since a 66-65 victory on February 8, 2023.

Vanderbilt withstood an 11-1 Volunteers' run in the first half, and surged ahead for a 41-35 lead at halftime.

Tennessee fought back late in the second half, dwindling the Vanderbilt lead to just two points when it was 76-74 in the final minute.

Vanderbilt's Chris Mañon blocked Chaz Lanier's layup with five seconds left in regulation, seemingly sealing the game for the 'Dores.

Shortly after, Lanier was fouled in transition and he went to the free throw line, where he made the first shot and missed the second.

Vanderbilt escaped with a 76-75 win at the buzzer, with fans storming the court, for its first win over a ranked opponent since a March victory over Kentucky in 2023.
