MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Grand Central Station, built in 1914, has stood in Downtown Memphis for over 100 years, and the building is now up for sale six years after it was transformed into a hotel.
Tuesday, the Marcus & Millichap Miller-Gomez Team listed the 123-room hotel on the market.
Kevin Kane with Memphis Tourism said hotels going up for sale like this is not out of the ordinary.
"Hotels are kind of built, bought, and sold. It is not uncommon in this industry, I am certainly not fearful of the hotel being shuttered or anything of that nature; it is a beautiful hotel," Kane said.
He says Central Station Hotel won't be shut down, adding its market listing is not a reflection of poor tourism numbers.
"It does not mean anything. People make business decisions for a lot of reasons. I don't know why the ownership group made the decision it was time to sell, but it is not the first hotel that is up for sale, and it will certainly not be the last," Kane said.
Central Station Hotel is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton Hotels.
