PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- A student was taken into custody on Thursday after allegedly making a threatening phone call to the Pemberton Township Schools' Transportation Office, prompting a district-wide Shelter in Place.
The incident began on Thursday morning when the Pemberton Township Police Department was alerted to the threat. Officers immediately responded to all district schools, while a Shelter in Place protocol was enacted as a precaution. According to police, K-9 units were deployed to Pemberton Township High School to search for potential threats.
"Following that deployment, it was determined that there was no threat to public safety at that time, and the Shelter in Place was lifted," the Pemberton Township Police Department stated.
Investigators were able to trace the call to a student, who was subsequently arrested. The student has been charged with making a false public alarm, a second-degree offense, and making terroristic threats, a third-degree offense.
No injuries were reported, and authorities assured the public that the situation was resolved without further incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
