An underground fire at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets is still burning and is producing more smoke, according to a Sunday morning update from James City County officials.
In a post on the county's Facebook page, officials advised people with respiratory problems are cautioned to avoid the area.
Firefighters began arriving just before 9 a.m. Saturday and discovered a fire in the stormwater draining system, and found the asphalt parking lot behind the stores partially collapsed.
As of Sunday afternoon, firefighters were still on scene and are trying keep smoke down as much as possible.
The mall announced that all stores had reopened Sunday. The day before, firefighters had evacuated about 36 stores in that section of the Premium Outlets, which includes Yankee Candle, the Levi's Outlet and the Gap Factory.
The outlet at 5715 Richmond Road has more than 120 stores.
