UNCW starts CAA play with loss - WWAYTV3

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) - A new year did not bring a new result. Towson has now won 10 of the last 12 games against UNCW.

Even though the Seahawks did defend Trask coliseum against the Tigers a year ago, Towson still won the season series and just won the only regular season matchup for this year after a 65-61 overtime win in Wilmington. Neither team led by more than seven points in the second half that ended even at 57-57 to send the game to overtime where the Tigers prevailed with the game's final six points.

"We weren't tough enough down the stretch to rebound the basketball," said UNCW head coach Takayo Siddle. UNCW was outrebounded 50 to 40 and the Seahawks allowed 17 offensive rebounds, allowing in 14 second chance points.

UNCW's fashioned his second-straight double-double with season-highs of 18 points and 13 rebounds. collected 17 points and matched his career-high with seven assists while 11 points represent his third straight game in double figures. The Seahawks built a double-digit lead twice in the first half on a pair of Newby three-pointers, but Towson battled back with a 13-0 run late in the second half. A 7-2 UNCW spurt over the final 2:47 before halftime made it 29-all entering the intermission.

Up next for UNCW is Campbell to close out a 5-game homestand. Tip off on Saturday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
