Bill Williamson is the site manager of Silver and Black Pride. He has covered the NFL since 1996 and he has covered the Raiders since 2008.
The Las Vegas Raiders will have interest in their open head coaching job now that Antonio Pierce has been fired.
Let's look at three reasons to love and hate the opening for candidates:
The tight end is an elite player and he is someone to build around on the offense. Offensive coaches will be licking their chops to get their hands on the record-breaking Bowers.
Maxx Crosby and Christian Wilkins:
The defensive linemen are a great tandem and they are a great centerpiece to the defense. Getting these two back and healthy in 2025 will be a great boost for the team.
Facilities:
The Raiders' Henderson, Nevada facility is state-of-the-art and it will blow away candidates when they come to interview. Also, Allegiant Stadium is a pretty nice game-day home as well. The building can sell this job.
Coaches want clarity at the most important position on the field. The Raiders have no clarity and no clear path to addressing it right away. Aidan O'Connell isn't going sway many candidates.
The division:
Patrick Mahomes. Andy Reid. Justin Herbert. Jim Harbaugh. Sean Payton. Bo Nix. The three other teams in the AFC West are heading to the playoffs. That's a daunting challenge to take on.
Lack of stability:
This will be the sixth full-time coach Mark Davis will hire in more than 13 years and the third in three years. Candidates what stability from the top of the organization. The Raiders can't say that.
Conclusion:
There are no perfect openings or the job wouldn't be open. So, candidates know that all jobs have issues. There will be interest in this job despite the flaws.
