BRENHAM, Tx - This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Simon Theatre, Brenham's magnificent entertainment palace that opened in 1925. That's when vaudeville was king of entertainment, so vaudeville will kick-off the birthday year. The Vintage Vaudeville Show will take place on Saturday January 25 at 7pm. It will be a unique Roaring 20's-style variety show featuring Savoy Rose Band. They specialize in music of the 1920's, 30's and 40's, often called the "Jazz Era." Several additional acts will join the band onstage, reminiscent of early variety shows of the era. The fast-paced lineup includes lively Lindy Hop and Charleston dance numbers by Dance Force Productions. "You'll be spellbound by Flight Risk, the award-winning juggling/ comedy duo," said Sharon Brass, The Barnhill Center producer. "You'll laugh out loud with Hall and Brass Comedy Team, that will remind you of Laurel & Hardy or Abbott & Costello." Attendees are invited to arrive early and explore A Century of Simon Exhibit that will open at 5:30pm. The exhibit includes The Merry Widow, the first movie ever shown at the Simon Theatre in 1925. Several Model A automobiles will be on display outside the theatre, exhibited by the Brazos Valley Model A Club. "In the Simon Theatre's heyday, Model A's were the most popular cars to drive to the movies," said Brass. "Our guests will enjoy seeing these glamorous vehicles, some of which are owned by College Station residents." Birthday Cake will be served to all guests, and Roaring 20's attire is invited.
