Blue Jays Roundup: Cross-country places first in Casselton

Sep. 17 -- CASSELTON, N.D. -- The Jamestown High School cross-country team had a good bus ride back to the Buffalo City on Tuesday.

"It was nice not to have to travel too far to get to a mid-sized race and it was even better to leave with the team win for both the boys and girls teams," JHS head cross-country coach Ken Gardner said.

The Blue Jay boys wound up first out of seven competing teams while the girls had the best finishes out of the four teams.

"Six of our girls finished in the top 20 and five boys finished in the top 21," Gardner said. "There were lots of really nice performances on a warm and humid day."

The Blue Jay girls were led by sophomore Layna Hoffer who crossed the line at fifth overall. Hoffer clocked a time of 22:48. Layla Becker (9), Millicent Maus (11), Ellie Krueger (12), Hadley Jackson (14) and Stella Belzer (15) rounded out the six who finished within the top-20.
