The first family community housing build in the Chatham-Kent centre, at 36 McGeorge St., is in the final stages of construction and it is expected to be ready for occupancy by February, the municipality says.
"This development is an essential step forward in Chatham-Kent's commitment to supporting affordable housing for families in the region," municipal officials said.
The three-storey building will include 17 units, designed to accommodate the needs of families.
The building includes nine three-bedroom units, six accessible 3-bedroom units and two four-bedroom units, the municipality said. Additional features include patios or balconies, parking and pay-per-use laundry facilities.
The building is near downtown Blenheim, with close proximity to schools, daycare centres and community services.
