Cherry picker overturns, Anderson man falls 40-50 feet to his death; wind possible factor

The Anderson County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a man who was thrown from a cherry picker that overturned while he was trimming trees.

The victim has been identified as Daniel Christopher Brown, Sr., a 51-year-old male from Anderson.

According to the report, Brown was self-employed and trimming trees for an individual homeowner in a local neighborhood.

The incident occurred Thursday around 1:50 p.m. in the Centerville community on Sunny Lane in Anderson, according to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore.

While using a cherry picker to trim some limbs, the equipment overturned, causing him to fall approximately 40-50 feet to the ground, according to Alyssa H. Whitfield, public information officer for the Anderson County Office of the Coroner.

The cherry picker stabilizer was not deployed and this oversight and the increasing winds that day likely contributed to the equipment tipping over, according to Whitfield.

Emergency responders, including Anderson County EMS, Medshore Ambulance Service, the Anderson County Fire Department (Centerville Station), the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, and the Office of the Coroner, responded to the scene.

When emergency responders arrived, they found the victim in cardiac arrest. EMS personnel attempted resuscitative efforts, but the victim was non-responsive to treatment and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident has been ruled accidental, and there is no evidence of foul play or negligence.
