Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said on social media Friday morning that a man was arrested in the Yelm area after crashing his car into someone's front yard, then shoving and spitting in an officer's face.
Sanders posted the incident at 1:44 a.m. Friday morning. He said deputies were dispatched to a DUI crash in the Yelm area that ended up in someone's front yard.
The driver attempted to flee the scene but was located and arrested by deputies and Yelm police officers. The keys to the wrecked vehicle were still in the man's pocket.
Sanders said the man was taken back to the Yelm Police Department to administer a breathalyzer. The man shoved an officer and spit in the face of another officer, which Sanders said abruptly ended the man's opportunity to be cited and released.
A search warrant was granted to obtain the man's blood, which will be sent off to the Washington State Patrol crime lab for testing. Sanders said after the blood is seized for evidence, the man's final stop was the Thurston County Jail where he was booked for alleged DUI and two counts of felony assault.
