At Wednesday's police services board meeting, Chief Kirk Earley presented a commendation to emergency communications operator Helen Grubb, ECO supervisor Jen Roesch, Sgt. Fraser Leontowicz and constables Marko Sapateiro and Kyle Blommers for assisting a suicidal person.

On June 5, a mother called police to say her daughter had fled her home saying she was going to kill herself.

"Due to . . . significant concerns for their daughter's safety, the family went out looking for the daughter and located her running across a large field, which backs onto a local high school," Earley said.

The call came in to the 911 communication centre, with Grubb gathering necessary information and staying on the line until officers arrived.
