FAIRFIELD -- Police said Sunday they were investigating an alleged hit-and-run crash that occurred Saturday evening on Oakland Road in Fairfield.
A 38-year-old pedestrian was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital, according to Officer Casey Dugas, the public information officer for the Fairfield Police Department.
The crash occurred at about 5:45 p.m. near Six Rod Road, when a woman was hit while walking with traffic toward Oakland, Dugas said.
Dugas wrote in an email Sunday that Sgt. Patrick Mank, the investigating officer, said the woman was taken by Delta Ambulance to the Thayer Center for Health in Waterville. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to Dugas.
"A witness provided a description of the vehicle that struck her as being a mid-sized black sedan which fled the scene after finding that it had struck a person," Dugas wrote in his announcement to the news media.
Mank reported that the crash occurred on a dark stretch of Oakland Road, and the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing, according to Dugas.
Along with Fairfield police and Delta Ambulance, the Fairfield and Benton Fire-Rescue Department responded to the crash.
Police said Sunday they have leads in the case. Dugas said anyone with information about the crash should call the Fairfield Police Department at 207-453-9321.
