Luke Rockhold got off to a strong start at Saturday's Misfits Boxing event, where he faced fellow UFC alum Darren Till in the night's main event.
Misfits Boxing 22 saw the promotion's inaugural bridgerweight (super cruiserweight) on the line between the two well-traveled mixed martial artists. While Till had made a successful foray into boxing previously, earning a couple of wins including one over yet another UFC talent, Darren Stewart, Rockhold was another matter. He'd been brutally stopped by Mike Perry under the BKFC banner, though he had notched a win for Karate Combat.
Perhaps he should stick to something other than the sweet science. Rockhold looked good early on against Till, controlling the action throughout the opening frame, at least until the end of the round. There, a left hand clipped the ex-UFC and Strikeforce champ, and he'd end up on the canvas, though he beat the count to his feet. Things took an even more drastic turn by the third, however, with Rockhold caught in the corner.
Till peppered his opponent with lefts and rights, a couple connecting, but it was a solid left that sent Rockhold to the floor once again, slumped over awkwardly. This time, there was absolutely no way he was getting back to his feet.
Darren Till gets the belt, Luke Rockhold gets slept, with many suggesting he hang up the gloves for good following the fight.
