Stop-motion filmmaker debuts newest work in Haverhill

HAVERHILL -- Animator and filmmaker Tim Smyth is debuting his newest live-action short film at 7 p.m. Friday at HC Media Studio 101, 2 Merrimack St.

The film, "Tyrannocircus Rex," is a half-hour monster-fantasy picture with stop-motion scenes.

The screening will feature various short films that Smyth has created over the last 20 years, two of which were filmed in Haverhill.

Smyth was first inspired to pursue film and animation after an elective course at Hunking School.

After graduating from high school, the filmmaker moved to New York where he began working on television shows and series, including "Celebrity Deathmatch," "The Simpsons," and "Blake Shelton's Not So Family Christmas."

While nationally broadcast television helped advance his career, Smyth has dedicated his time to working on his independent projects. Folks are invited to watch his short films on Friday.

Andover looking for resident input

ANDOVER -- The Robb Center, in partnership with researchers at UMass Boston, is conducting a study to evaluate the needs and preferences for supportive adult day services in town.

These types of programs provide nonmedical support services in group settings to participants, families and caregivers.

The Robb Center offers this kind of program. The purpose of this project is to inform the planning for expansion of and improvement to existing supportive day services in Andover and surrounding areas.

The project is funded by the Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

The community survey will help determine what services should be priorities for the future along with the examining the strengths or where current services can improve.

The survey is available at various Andover sites and online at andoverma.gov/survey. Complete the survey and return it by Oct. 31.
