Earl Grey and Aroma Nice return as Monologue with four tracks of abstract breaks and acidic d&b on Rua Sound
Earl Grey and Aroma Nice will release a new collaborative EP as Monologue via Galway-based jungle/drum & bass label Rua Sound next month. Listen to the 'Last Of The Summer Wasps' below.
Respectively affiliated with labels like Inperspective/Western Lore and Hyperchamber/YUKU, the duo serve up four tracks of abstract breaks and acidic d&b on 'Keano Traxx'. The instant highlight is the brilliantly-named 'Last Of The Summer Wasps', with its spiralling 303 squelch, cascading jungle rhythms and eerie spoken word segment, whereas 'Make Up Sex' sets a kind of '80s synth boogie groove (think Dam-Funk or Kleeer) against a rolling drum track.
'When It Clicks', meanwhile, is a compelling hybrid between liquid d&b and sulphuric electro, with thudding subs, smoky sax samples and gnarly acid.
It's not the first time the two have collaborated, having both previously remixed the other's work, as well as releasing a track, 'Force Of Impact', via Amen tal back in 2014 and the 'Acid Settee' on YUKU in 2022.
