Lee Men Drop 1-0 Gulf South Loss To Trevecca

Despite dominating the offensive side of the ball, the Lee University men's soccer team could not score a goal and dropped a road Gulf South Conference matchup to Trevecca Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon 1-0.

With the loss, Lee fell to 3-5-4 overall and 2-3-2 in GSC action while TNU improved to 4-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in GSC play. After two road games in the last two weeks, the Flames will return home next Friday for senior night.

Lee outshot the Trojans 20-6 in the contest including 7-1 in shots on goal. But in the 82nd minute, Phillip Collins took a pass from Chris Douglas and found the back of the goal for the only score of the game.

Marc Ehmann and Shay Gillen each had four shots, but Adan Gonzalez was up for the task in the net for Trevecca as he had seven big saves to record the shutout.

The Flames will return home to host Delta State University on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 PM. The Flames will celebrate senior day before the match.

Coach Derek Pottieger's Thoughts:

"This is another tough result that doesn't reflect our performance. I understand that you don't get any points for performance, but the guys played hard, played for each other, but just couldn't capture the final moment to move the dial on the scoreboard.

We started the game well, even with the morning travel and the warm afternoon kick-off, but we just couldn't take advantage of so many chances in the first half. The game got harder as the minutes wore on and so give credit to Trevecca for taking their chance.

We won't lose our internal confidence and our trust in one another; but we also have to take a hard look at some of the details that are causing us to play well enough but not get the results."
