An arctic cold front blew through Texas Saturday night and into Sunday morning bringing small amounts of snow to portions of the panhandle, South Plains and even the Big Country.
Those in the Amarillo and Lubbock areas woke up Sunday with temperatures anywhere from 10-15 degrees. Sunday morning temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area were in the low 20's and in the Houston area Sunday morning temperatures were in the 30's.
But it's the next push of arctic air that has many concerned. While many portions of Texas will see temperatures fall below 32 degrees between Sunday and Tuesday, extremely cold temperatures are forecasted for the Texas Panhandle, South Plains, and Rolling Plains according to the National Weather Service.
According to a tweet from the National Weather Service, another round of arctic air will push through Texas Monday evening bringing very cold wind chills to the area. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch from Monday night through Tuesday morning for the Panhandle, South Plains and Rolling Plains. Wind chills could get as low as -5 to -12.
It's recommended during this time that you stay home, but if you do get out, make sure you are dressed for it and cover all exposed skin to avoid hypothermia and frostbite. High temperatures on Monday in the Amarillo area will be in the 20's while Lubbock's high is supposed to be 30. Temperatures across the state on Tuesday are expected to rebound into the upper 30's and low 40's.
The rest of the week will see mild temperatures around the state.
