AMD Kinda Confirms Ryzen AI MAX 300 as Official Name for Strix Halo Processors in New Chipset Drivers

It seems AMD has officially named the Ryzen AI MAX 300 as part of its upcoming Strix Halo processor lineup, as detailed in the latest chipset driver updates released by ASUS for X670E motherboards. The driver patch notes reference the Ryzen AI MAX 300, a designation that has been associated with the Strix Halo series since late September. This confirmation establishes the branding strategy AMD will employ for this new series of processors, which are anticipated to deliver significant performance improvements.

The Strix Halo processors are designed as Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), integrating multiple Zen 5-based CPU chiplets with a robust RDNA 3.5 GPU architecture. These processors support configurations with up to 128GB of RAM, targeting high-performance computing needs, particularly within the laptop market. Unlike AMD's current lineup of laptop processors, the Ryzen AI MAX 300 series introduces new branding, indicating a distinct tier within AMD's product offerings. The combination of advanced CPU and GPU components in these APUs aims to provide enhanced computational and graphical performance, addressing the demands of modern computing tasks effectively. Additional information about the Ryzen AI MAX 300 series remains limited, with most details emerging from industry insiders and reputable leakers. A notable source, the Weibo user Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, initially introduced the Ryzen AI MAX name and suggested that the series will include three models: the Ryzen AI MAX 395 featuring 16 CPU cores and a GPU with 40 compute units, the Ryzen AI MAX 390 with 12 cores and 40 compute units, and the Ryzen AI MAX 385 equipped with 8 cores and 32 compute units.

These specifications indicate a scalable approach to meet various performance requirements across different devices. AMD is expected to formally announce these processors at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early 2025, where further technical specifications and performance benchmarks are likely to be disclosed.
