One of the many great stories of Barcelona's brilliant season so far is the return of Pedri to his best self. After three years of real struggle with injuries the midfielder is healthy again and playing the most consistent football of his young career, and is an irreplaceable piece of Hansi Flick's team.
Pedri has two years left on his contract and there are already reports about Barça preparing a new deal for the magician, and sporting director Deco was asked about those reports in an interview this week.
Deco was quick to confirm that he wants Pedri to sign a new deal, and also revealed the player changed his training routine under Flick in order to avoid injuries and return to his best once again.
"When it comes to renewals, even though we know in football the players want the best contracts and the clubs want the best players, there's another crucial point for me which is knowing what the players' goals are. To renew with them you need to know what they want to achieve, and that goes beyond just having good contracts, it's about winning titles. That's how I thought and I believe our players think the same way. I believe Pedri's renewal will happen because Pedri wants to make history with the club, he feels happy here, he wants to win titles and is playing his best once again after woking very hard to come back.
"He understood there was some work to do after so many years of suffering with injuries. He understood he needed to train differently and better, and there was still time to do it. We will renew his contract, there are two more years to do it. We are focused on winning big things this season, but also guaranteeing the futures of big players. And Pedri is one of them."

There is no doubt that the contributions of a healthy Pedri will be on the shortlist of reasons for a successful end to Barça's 2024-25 season, and he absolutely should get a new contract as soon as possible to ensure that one of the world's most magical playmakers remains a Blaugrana for years to come.
