TJ Otzelberger gives scouting report on Iowa State basketball's top-ranked 2025 signees

AMES -- Let coach TJ Otzelberger explain what a top-10 recruiting class looks like.

Wednesday, Iowa State announced four members of its 2025 high school signing class. 247 Sports ranks the 2025 class No. 8 in the nation and it is the top-ranked class among Big 12 teams.

3 takeaways: Curtis Jones comes off bench to lead Iowa State in win against Kansas City

Wing Jamarion Batemon (from Milwaukee, ranked No. 41 nationally), forward Xzavion Mitchell (from Oshkosh, No. 129), point guard Macari Moore (Ann Arbor, No. 134) and guard Killyan Toure (Brewster Academy, unranked) are the four signees announced.

It is the highest-ranking signing class in school history and the second time in four recruiting cycles Otzelberger's staff has landed a top-10 class in the country.

Here is what Otzelberger said about each player in superlative videos from ISU Athletics:

Iowa State basketball fan-favorite Conrad Hawley to have shoulder surgery

Jamarion Batemon, 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, wing

"Jamarion Batemon is a dynamic scoring guard," Otzelberger said. "Someone with unlimited range from the time he steps into the building. A guy who is highly aggressive from the 3-point line, loves to attack the closeout, play downhill in the paint. Great playmaker for himself and for his teammates."

"On the defensive side of the court a guy that takes so much pride in guarding the basketball, pressuring the basketball, at times picking up full-court and turning over his opponents. Tremendous mentality. We look forward to Jamarion having an immediate impact on our program."

Xzavion Mitchell, 6-foot-6, 210 pounds, forward

"Xzavion Mitchell is a mismatch nightmare, a guy that can help facilitate offense, a tremendous playmaker, downhill attacking player, someone who can facilitate offense for himself and for his teammates and a tremendous passer at his size," Otzelberger said.

"On the defensive end of the court, someone with extreme versatility," Otzelberger said. "Someone that can guard multiple positions, a very high IQ player, someone who is proven to be a great defensive rebounder, quick jumper off the floor. We are so excited to see his impact on our program right away as a Cyclone."

Macari Moore, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, point guard

"Macari Moore is a downhill, attacking guard," Otzelberger said. "Someone with great physicality with the basketball, drives through the point of contact, loves getting in the paint and making plays. Someone that has great toughness and ability to create an advantage for the offense."

"On the defensive side, he takes tremendous pride being that pivotal guard on the basketball. Someone who has that ... mentality and as a bigger guard can rebound down, which will really benefit our defense."

Killyan Toure, 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, guard

"Killyan Toure is an extremely fast attacking guard, tremendous in the open court," Otzelberger said. "Great speed, decision making, high IQ player who sees the game a step ahead."

"He's someone that's always aggressive, relentlessly attacking, always trying to get to the paint and basket. Defensively, an elite defensive player. Guards the basketball, great instincts, someone who can play multiple positions on defense, take away the other team's strengths and turn defense into offense."
