Cowboys urged to make drastic change after another blowout loss

The Dallas Cowboys are 3-6 with no turnaround in sight. They are without Dak Prescott, the defense looks bad and Mike McCarthy has seemingly no answers.

While listing moves the Cowboys need to make, FanSided's Mark Powell urged the Cowboys to fire Mike McCarthy.

"Even with a healthy Prescott and supporting cast, McCarthy was 3-5 on the season, and the Cowboys were going nowhere fast," wrote Powell. "Before Jerry Jones and McCarthy even think about blaming this 'lost season' on injuries to Prescott and Micah Parsons, among others, the latter ought to be shown the door. We've seen enough."

McCarthy's Cowboys team in 2024 is similar to his Green Bay Packers team in 2018. The team was riddled with injuries, Aaron Rodgers was getting paid a lot of money and the defense couldn't stop anyone. This year's Cowboys are not far off.

"I am not a Cowboys fan, but if I were, I'd be tired of watching Mike McCarthy pace up and down the sidelines," wrote Powell. "It's not working, and it never really has. McCarthy was on the hot seat after last season, when he lost to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card round, again in embarrassing fashion. It's the only way McCarthy-coached teams know how to lose."

The Cowboys need a new direction and firing McCarthy could be the first step. This season seems to be a lost cause. Getting a head start on the head coach search by potentially getting a look at an in-house candidate in an interim role may be valuable.
