A solid West Side boys squad took seventh (193) out of 15 schools. Nine of the 12 Pirates boys recorded personal bests at the Preston Invite on Oct. 16 and two more posted season records.
The West Side teams will compete in the 3A District 4/5 XC Championships at Kelly Park Nordic Ski trail in Soda Springs on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m.
Ethan Willis was third overall with a PR of 15:57 behind two-time reigning state champion Corbin Johnston of North Fremont and Teton's Zane Lindquist, the 3A state bronze medalist from a year ago,
In addition to Willis -- who ran the fastest time out of any Cache Valley harrier at the Bob Firman Invite -- the West Side boys got a top 20 performance from veteran Koby Telford, who finished 19th and clocked in with a 16:59 PR. Freshman Elia Beutler was 42nd (17:47PR) followed by Bryant Noreen (18:07.8), Jerry Barrientez (18:57.6PR), Phillip Lee (19:01.5PR), Braxton Grimm (19:19.7PR), Malachi Beutler (20:14.7 SR), Cooper Gale (20:52.0PR), Brycen Thomsen (20:56.1PR), Taylor Nielsen (22:07.3 SR) and Brock Gregory (22:08.3PR).
West Side's top performer on the girls side was Leah Westover, who placed 49th (22:06), while teammate Aynslee Stewart was 106th (24:37). Snake River's Paetyn Polatis was the medalist and her impressive time of 18:54 was 27 seconds faster than anyone else on the girls side.
Sophomore Teagan Jensen PRed at 25:36.1 and was followed by JennaLynn Campbell (25:54.4), Harley Nielsen (27:16.2), Chloe Taylor (27:19.2), Callie Sant (30:41.8), Janie Waite (36:57.4) and Shiiwaye Ross (41:54.8).
