Ratcliffe and co. hold talks with 44yo manager to replace Ten Hag at United - report

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co. have reportedly held talks with Xavi Hernandez about the possibility of becoming new Manchester United manager if they decide to part company with Erik ten Hag.

This is according to the Daily Mail who report that intermediaries have made contact with the Spanish boss twice in the last few months.

Xavi has made it clear that he doesn't want to coach in Spain again, which means he could be tempted to replace Ten Hag at the helm in Manchester.

The 44-year-old has been out of job since being sacked by Barcelona last summer after he expressed doubts about the squad.

Xavi took over the Catalans as manager in November 2021 and led them to La Liga title success in his first full season.

Performances deteriorated last season and he announced his decision to leave at the end of the campaign, only to perform a U-turn on his decision.

However, the Spaniard's comments about the squad and the club's financial crisis ultimately led to his dismissal.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Erik ten Hag's future at Manchester United.

Many expected him to be sacked during the international break, but he survived and led his side to a 2-1 win over Brentford last weekend.

However, his job at Old Trafford is far from safe and he must deliver some impressive results over the coming weeks to avoid getting the sack.

The Red Devils will face Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday before meeting West Ham United in an away Premier League fixture on Sunday.
